A rugged UMPC called the Switchback
If you’re into the whole UMPC concept but you want something that’s just a bit more rugged than what is currently out on the market today, you might want to check out the Switchback UMPC from Black Diamond Advanced Technology. The unit is designed to meet or exceed military specifications for shock, vibration, dust, moisture, and extreme temperatures. That’s right – take this bad boy wherever you go.
On top of the rugged design, the Switchback is designed for modular expansion. You can add functionality to the UMPC simply back attaching additional hardware, devices or connector interfaces to the back of the unit. Sure that might mean a bit more weight and heft to the device, but functionalities increase as a result.
With the Switchback, you’re not stuck with just Windows XP – you have the option of running XP, CE, Windows Mobile, or even Linux. The best part? You can run two OS’s at the same time on the same screen. The system operates on a primary processor which sits on the system motherboard but it also has a secondary board that can handle load for other tasks as well. Nice.
