PC Magazine has posted up a review of the Archos 404 portable video player here on their website. The 404 is part of the Generation 4 lineup of new players out of Archos. Features of the 404 include:

- 3.5 inch TFT – 320 x 240 display with 16 million colors
- MPEG-4, WMV, MP3, WMA, Protected WMA, WAV, JPEG, BMP, PNG support
- Support for other file formats via plugins
- Reads PDF documents
- Record in MPEG-4
- Voice recording through built in microphone
- USB 2.0 support
- USB 2.0 host, mass storage class support
- 3.5 mm stereo headphone mini jack and TV output
- 12 hour music playback and four hour video playback battery performance
- Lithium Ion Polymer battery
This is one feature packed player folks. The only real complaints I’ve ever had with Archos are 1. design and 2. user interface. I’ve always thought the Archos devices are somewhat well.. how shall we say it.. ughly? and the user interfaces.. omg.. don’t even get me started on that one.
ok.. enough ranting – here’s PC Magazine’s verdict:
The Archos 404 is a very good pocket-size media player, and it can record video via the optional docking station, but I wish the battery were removable.
