If you’re planning on getting the new Series3 TiVo box or you already ordered one, then you might be interested in reading this blog posting over at PVRBlog.com – especially if you are a Comcast subscriber. As you know, Series3 TiVo boxes require CableCards from your cable company in order for you to enjoy viewing and recording digital content from your provider – especially that beautiful HD content. And since there are two tuners within the Series3, you’ll need two CableCards from your provider. Well.. be prepared to have LOTS of fun with your provider in trying to obtain these CableCards.

We’re sure a lot of customer support folk aren’t properly trained to handle requests from people asking for CableCards. In fact, be prepared for some cable companies to outright say that they don’t have any to offer. That’s a load of BS of course – you have the right to get a CableCard although you might have to pay a little for them. Other companies (like Comcast apparently) are requiring that a service tech guy come out to install the cards (which is just simply that – sliding the card into the slot and calling the office to activate them) which also incurs a small charge on your end.

Ultimately, just remind yourself that you’re freeing yourself from having to pay monthly rental charges for that cable box of yours. You bought a TiVo box to eliminate the need of that nasty Cable box. In the meantime, be prepared for many adventures in CableCard land as the folks at PVRBlog.com put it.
