It’s not really a surprise that Intel plans on releasing quad core Core 2 processors soon. The only questions was when exactly these processors would be coming out to the public. Well, DailyTech might have the answers for you – at least a round estimate. The first quad core Core 2 processors will come in two packages.

The first version will be called the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 running at 2.66GHz and will be coming out in November of THIS year. As you can tell by the name, this processor will join the Core 2 Extreme Edition lineup and will feature a Socket 775 packaging and a 1066 FSB. The QX6700 will work in second generation Conroe-compatible 975X motherboards but not all 965 series boards. The estimated price for the QX6700 will be $999.

The second quad core version will be the mainstream quad-core Kentsfield CPU. This processor will launch early next year and will have a new name associated to it – the Core 2 Quadro Q6600. This processor will be running at 2.4GHz and will cost less than the QX6700 but more than the current Core 2 Duo E6700.
