Now that Microsoft Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 is out, people looking to upgrade should start considering whether their existing hardware is good enough for the new OS. Perhaps you’re interested in building a new system from scratch? If you’re thinking about going down that road, then you should read this article over at ExtremeTech.com detailing how to go about building a system which would be sufficient for Vista.

The real kicker in my opinion is the end price – they built a system for a cost of approximately $2525. That’s a bit steep even if there’s a half terabyte of disk space in there. You can definitely lower the price of that system by changing some components. You can also go out and purchase a prebuilt system from a major manufacturer but where’s the fun in that?

Whichever route you choose, it’s going to be clear that Vista will require hardware upgrades for some of you out there – especially in the graphics department. Your 3GHz P4 will probably suffice but that old GeForce card may have to go finally.
