LaptopMag has posted up a review of the Sony mylo here on their website. I think I was a bit harsh on the product when Sony first announced it mostly because of the lack of a phone on the mylo. Not familiar with the mylo? Well in many ways it’s similar to the Nokia 770 in that it’s meant to be used as a way to get onto the Internet assuming you have a Wi-Fi connection. With it’s sliding keyboard, it actually one ups the 770 in that it’s a great texting device (although you’ll have to use your thumbs of course). You can surf the web, check your enail and chat with your friends but curiously.. the mylo doesn’t support AIM (boo!). It’s also a multimedia playback device with support for ATRAC, MP3, and WMA music files as well as MPEG-4 video playback. Yes the mylo isnt a mobile phone… BUT… it does have a Skype client so you can always make Skype calls over Wi-Fi connections. Here’s the verdict from LaptopMag:
Sony deserves kudos for delivering such a full-featured, stylish, and easy to use handheld. However, the mylo is expensive when compared with competing devices like the Sidekick 3, which offers many of the same features and much wider cellular coverage for $50 less.
So yes.. maybe I was a bit harsh on the device but why pay so much when you get a smartphone that does just as much and costs less? I don’t really think it’s a hard decision to make. At nearly $350, the mylo is much too expensive (so is the Nokia 770!).
