Griffin Technology FireWave – Surround Sound for the Mac
Griffin Technology has introduced a new surround sound system for the Mac audience out there called FireWave. With FireWave, you can now experience true Dolby Digital Surround Sound with your mac.
FireWave connects to your Mac via the FireWire port and even draws power from the port making an AC adapter unnecessary. It outputs six channel audio through three 3.5 mm stereo mini-jacks in the back and also includes a Firewire 400 passthrough port to allow you to add additional devices.
FireWave supports both Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding and also supports quad and hex sound arrangements. Note- the device is not an amplifier. The outputs are line level so you’ll need to either have powered speakers or an amp in place for pumping up the sound. Here are the specs:
- Audio Ports: 3 – 1/8″ (3.5mm) stereo minijacks (Left/Right, Center/Subwoofer, Left Surround/Right Surround)
- FireWire Ports: 2
- Supported Audio Formats: Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II
- Additional audio configurations are supported through Mac OS X’s Audio MIDI Setup utility
- Frequency Response: 20-20,000Hz
- Line-out voltage: 2Vpp
- Size: 132mm (5.20â€) wide x 77mm (2.83â€) deep x 25mm (0.98â€) tall
