File this one under “real smart…” – NASA is currently missing approximately 700 boxes of original transmissions from the Apollo luna missions – including the original recordings of Neil Armstrongs’ famous first step on the moon and his famous words – “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Although there are many reproductions of the transmissions, they are of lower quality than the supposed original recordings. They were originally housed with the National Archives but they were then returned to NASA in the 1970′s. Is it truly missing? Probably not.. but it’ll take some time to find the recordings and even then, no one knows if they will still play back.
