Here’s a different take on the barebones system 0 the ENlight LP-791 LCD PC Chassis. It’s basically an all-in-one PC system minus the motherboard and major components! With the LP-791, you’ll basically get the following components:

  • 220W PSU
  • Side USB ports and 7 in 1 card reader
  • Stereo speakers
  • Microphone
  • LCD display

What you then have to do is supply the MicroATX motherboard and processor (and of course the hard drive etc). The monitor itself is a 19 inch SXGA monitor with a resolution of 1280 x 1024. The model that Hexus reviewed had a touchscreen feature on the monitor which makes it doubly cool in our books.
It certainly isn’t the prettiest all in one system out there but the mere fact that it’s a barebones system means you can configure it any which way you want. I’d love to have one in the kitchen for use while cooking. Hook up a TV tuner to the box and you’ll have a great small MCE HTPC platform. Here’s the verdict from Hexus:

All in all, despite initial skepticism (ah, the jaded life of the tech. journo), once we got our hands dirty, ENlight’s LP791 proved itself to be a very nice, innovative chassis. It’s by no means for everyone, but if you’re in the market for a solution like this, we reckon the LP791 will do a damn good job, provided the price proves to be alright.
