Interlink Electronics MicroNav(TM) Technology Creates Innovative User Touchpad for New BenQ-Siemens SL91 Mobile Phone
CAMARILLO, Calif. –(Business Wire)– Aug. 9, 2006 Interlink Electronics, Inc. (Pink Sheets:LINK), a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of human interface products and technologies, announced today that BenQ-Siemens, now the sixth largest mobile phone handset manufacturer in the world, has selected Interlink’s patented MicroNav technology to enable the back-lit user touchpad on its new SL91 mobile phone. Announced in late July, the BenQ SL91 is already being acknowledged for its innovative design and sophisticated user interface.
Interlink’s patented MicroNav sensor gives the new SL91 user a multimedia interface experience. A back-lit transparent FSR(R)-based keypad is mounted beneath the phone’s smooth black control surface. The keypad lights up when touched, or when it detects incoming calls, giving the user a combination of visual, tactile and audio interaction. Along with its elegant industrial design, the SL91 offers enhanced functionality including an integrated 3G feature set, a 3.2 mega pixel auto focus camera, a second VGA camera that can be directed towards the speaker during video calls, and a 2-inch QVGA mobile display. Other features include an integrated MP3 player, a stereo RDS FM radio, music download capability via Bluetooth, internal data storage using Micro-SD memory cards and a matching base station for hands-free telephone or video conferencing. “We are proud to have been selected by BenQ-Siemens to supply the keypad interface for the new SL91 mobile phone,” said Rod Vesling, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Interlink Electronics, Inc. “The BenQ SL91, which utilizes a transparent MicroNav sensor to enable a unique backlit user keypad, is the third cell phone design win to be announced by Interlink in the last six months.
“Leading manufacturers are choosing MicroNav sensor solutions because they are flexible, energy-efficient and cost-effective,” added Interlink’s Mr. Vesling. “This increased design flexibility enables a unique back-lit user keypad that makes the phone visually stunning — dramatically differentiating it in today’s crowded marketplace. MicroNav components are also energy-efficient, requiring only a fraction of the power typically required by capacitive technology alternatives. Finally, MicroNav interface solutions are cost-effective, typically utilizing the host device microprocessor and requiring no additional electronics for integration.”
