In a sign of a possible contracting motherboard business, Asustek and Gigabyte have announced plans that they will be forming a new joint company. Gigabyte will then transfer its graphics and motherboards business to the new company and own a 51 percent stake in the company while Asustek will claim a 49 percent stake in it. Taiwan’s Institute of Information Industry has reported that the motherboard market has fallen during the first half of 2006 as compared to the first half of 2005 – 3.67 billion this year from 3.75 billion last year. No name was announced for the new joint venture so stay tuned for more information.
