Dhiren Shah - that's a good question actually. I would suspect that depending on the circumstances of the hardware components being used, the manufacturer would either give you a choice between the two or default to 32 bit versions of Vista which they know to work for the most part. At the end of the day, I suspect it will boil down to what driver support is best for the platform.

As a sanity check, I went to Dell.com's business section and could not actually find a PC that was selling with Vista installed - every business PC was still listed as Vista capable and you'd receive the upgrade in the mail if you wanted it - no word on which vista version though.

Am I to assume that when you buy a new PC with Vista, you will be required to make a decision to use 32 bit or 64 bit version of Vista?

We build a low level driver that is compatible with GDI architecture. It appears that Vista is made backward compatible with GDI.

Any comments?

From what I read BeyondTV doesn't (yet) support QAM. I'm really thinking that MythTV on Linux (KnoppMyth distro makes it trivial to install and many howto's for QAM config's etc) and then just get a cheap Dell desktop for "normal" PC usage including Skype phone. A Dell AMD is friggin close to $300! Insanely cheap...

Ken - Ahh yes you are correct. Vista's Media Center still does not support QAM HDTV and I doubt it ever will. I see your need for the application then. Have you considered BeyondTV? Not sure if it supports QAM decoding though.. have to check.

The problem is that I wish to receive the unencrpypted QAM HDTV cable channels, and currently Media Center only supports OTA VSB HDTV as I understand it? I assume that's still the case with Vista? As a result this means using the app. You're right in that the errors seem to relate to the system tray app, as the system still works, it's just a bit annoying, not a huge deal I suppose. The other strange thing is that the 3.30.1 version on the CD works, but the latest (3.50.1) doesn't show video, but I think I've strayed off the point, as stated elsewhere relying on 3rd party trashy software is a bit painful. Maybe I'll try Linux and MythTV, but I had trouble with getting my Skype USB box working properly there! (OK, I officially wandered off all threads now, ignore the last bits! ;-))

Ken - are you referring to the message that used to pop up when you started up XP? If so - I'm not actually sure if that message is gone or not. Since I don't use DVICO's FusionHDTV application, I just remove it from the startup sequence via msconfig. If you're not using it either then I would just get rid of the DVICO software being loaded.

Does DVICO's FusionHDTV software still give the annoying "The specified module could not be found" error under Vista as it does under XP? (I cannot for the life of me get that error to go away with the FusionHDTV software).

remember that this is an image file (the .iso extension indicates this) so you can't do the normal "new compilation" route under nero. Once you start up Nero Burning ROM, click on "Recorder -> Burn Image". From there, select your ISO, and you'll notice it will know what to do based on the information from the iso file. Hope this helps!

For beta 2, I had installed the 32 bit version of Vista. Unfortunately I don't think there's a 64 bit driver available yet for that printer but I'm not sure. I did accidentally install Vista RC1 x64 a few days ago but I didn't have my HP printer on and I've since replaced the OS with the 32 bit version of Vista RC1.

I'm curious whether you installed the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of VISTA B2. I am running the 64 bit version of B2 and have been unable to get my HP CLJ2600n to work with it. The XP printing software will not finstall on my box, presumably because it is a 32-bit program which requires fairly low-level hardware access to run as a host printing system.

You need to get software to burn an image of the ISO file. The file itself should NOT be burned onto the DVD. You can get a trial of Nero online that can do this for you. The ISO file contains the blueprints for the Vista bootable DVD, it will create all the files/directories for you.

Hey! I, too, downloaded Vista and burned it to a DVD-R. However, when I insert the DVD into the drive, the setup program for Vista does not begin. I simply have one long-named file that ends in .iso. I have no idea what to do to get this DVD to boot so that I can install Windows Vista. Could you kindly help? Thanks SO much in advance!! Joe

Darn - I actually forgot how I got AC 97 working but I do remember it working right after I installed the drivers. I believe I actually downloaded the drivers from Realtek's website here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True
They have updated Vista audio drivers. Maybe that'll work for you?

Are you sure the system is looking to your DVD drive first before the HDD? Perhaps the burn of the ISO file didn't work correctly? Or your download was bad?

I've yet to try to do a dual boot system with Beta 2 and I would honestly be hesitant to do so only because it will undoubtedly mess with the NT loader on your root drive. However, if you want to try it by all means go for it.

I downloaded the ISOs via the MSDN program and then burned them using Nero 6. No problems with my DVDs.

I have downloaded the Beta 2 version of Win Vista, and have had some problems. I am an advanced computer user, and would like some feedback. When I downloaded the .iso file I burned it to a disc as a bootable image, and that is all. I then setup a dual boot system with a freshly formated hd. When I try to boot from the DVD my computer returns with a missing operating system error. I believe I did something wrong with the ISO burning, but I'm not 100% sure. Can someone give me a sugestion of what is rong. Thanks a lot.
