Apple has announced the availability of new technology which allows you to dual boot a Intel based Mac system – choosing between OS X and Windows XP. The new technology is called Boot Camp and will be a part of the next major release of OS X , code named Leopard. You can download the beta version of Boot Camp today if you have an Intel based Mac with the latest firmware and OS updates.

Boot Camp burns a CD full of drivers that Windows will need to make it usable on the system. The software will then set aside space on your hard drive specifically for your Windows installation. Of course you’ll need to bring your own copy of Windows XP to the party since Apple does not sell nor support Windows XP. Remember, this is a dual boot option - you can not run Windows XP alongside OS X at the same time. You’re choosing to run one OS or the other. It’s not clear whether Apple will support Vista when the new OS launches but then again – that’s not going to be an issue until sometime next year anyhow.
