Intel unveils plans for the Ultramobile PC
So before we start unveiling news on the new Ultramobile PC platform, I figured we should at least describe what the UMPC platform is. Intel has had plans for creating a new class of PC systems that fit between laptops and PDAs. This is exactly what the UMPC or Ultramobile PC is. These new systems will be coming out this quarter for people who want something more powerful and capable than a PDA but don’t want to lug around a laptop. The Ultramobile PC platform was unveiled at the Intel IDF conference and we should be hearing more about these devices over the coming weeks and months. It remains to be seen whether users will be willing to shell out their cash for systems that are not as powerful as laptops yet may cost nearly as much as a low end notebook.
