The folks at EverythingUSB have managed to scrounge together an Imation USB 2.0 Micro Hard Drive to review for their website. This was the funky drive modeled after a padlock design and introduced a few months back by Imation. The device actually uses a 0.85″ inch 4GB HDD inside rather than flash memory which means the device has to stand up to everyday use. To make that happen, Imation employs plated brass to protect the drive – not too shabby. Of course the other cool thing about the drive? The padlock design which means this drive can hook to nearly anything. The downside? It’s so damn expensive at $167.99. Come on.. for four GB of space, you’re paying nearly 200 bucks! Oh wait.. that would be the case for the iPod nano also wouldn’t it? Whoops! So what’s the bottom line?

Overall, the Imation USB 2.0 Micro Drive really stands out in both design and durability. It certainly could use more speed given the price, and the Imation Security Manager software could use some improvement in usability. Regardless, for “physical” protection of your mobile data, the padlock-lookalike USB micro drive has our vote.
