Looking for a new widescreen notebook? Consider this middle of the road multimedia notebook from Dell – the XPS M140 as reviewed by the folks at LaptopMag. It sports a 14.1 inch widescreen display, an Intel Pentium M 1.86GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, an ExpressCard slot, a 5400 rpm HDD, and Microsoft’s Windows Media Center 2005 Edition. There’s also the Dell MediaDirect function which gives users nearly instantaneous access to music, photos, and videos without booting up Windows. Here’s the verdict from LaptopMag:

Overall, the Dell XPS M140 is a thin-and-light notebook that knows how to entertain, with the most versatile instant-on feature yet. It’s reasonably priced, but the average-sounding speakers and lack of a PC Card slot keep it from being an Editor’s Choice pick.
