Western Digital Raptor X 150GB Review
The Western Digital Raptor drives have always been a favorite of computer enthusiasts out in the market. The original 37GB models were a favorite for setting up mirrored drives in high performance gaming machines. Now Western Digital is out with an all new Raptor called the Raptor X 150GB and it sports a couple of cool new design features. First off – from the outside, the Raptor X has a transparent crystalline polycarbonate window which is ideal for the case modders out there that want to show off the inner workings of their PC. The Raptor X can also be purchased without this window feature for 50 bucks less. Other changes are below the surface – the new Raptor has a 16MB buffer size and now uses four heads and two platters. Here’s ExtremeTech’s verdict on the WD Raptor X 150GB:
If you need a fast single SATA drive and you don’t care how much it costs, this is it. You’ll dig the clear cover (and if you don’t, there’s a solid top version for $50 less).
