I totally missed this one during CES last month but a company called Radiospire has developed an HDMI chipset solution that enabled wireless HDTV connectivity without compressing the video signal. Without any lossly compression being used, you won’t find any picture degradation nor encryption problems from wireless transmissions. The chipset enables hardware manufacturers the ability to develop products that can wireless transmit signals to flat screen television sets up to 15 feet away.

The new chipset supports 720p, 1080i, and 1080p HDTV formats using HDCP encryption. In order to support 1080p resolutions, the chipset had to support wireless throughputs up to 3.0gbps – no small feat indeed. The chipset includes a SIGe RF transceiver chip, ADC/DAC, and a CMOS baseband device. The chipset operates in the 3.1 – 4.8GHz frequency range so it won’t interrupt existing wireless networks in the region.
