Microsoft wisely added Windows Media Connect support to all Xbox 360 game consoles which allows a Windows XP machine to stream audio and pictures to the game consoles over a network. Unfortunately, Microsoft never added support for other platforms – notably Linux and the Mac OS.  Now Nullriver Software is out with a software package for the Mac which turns the Mac into a streaming machine for 360 consoles.

The app is called “Connect360″ and it allows your Mac system to stream music and pictures from iTunes directly to a 360 box. You can download the application for free to try and 10 dollars to use. The application automatically transcodes the media formats into compatible Xbox 360 formats. Media formats supported by the Connect360 include:

  • AAC, Apple Lossless
  • MP3, WAV, AIFF
  • JPEG, RAW
  • PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PSD
