A company called “ItWorks” has produced a product called the WebServUSB which basically a series of server software applications made available via a standard USB flash key. You connect the flash key to an available port on a Windows desktop or laptop system and then run the installer application.  Next time you connect the WebServUSB key into your PC, the server services will automatically startup. The WebServUSB features:

  • HTTP Server
  • FTP Server
  • ISAP Support
  • CGI scripts
  • Perl scripts
  • Server-side includes
  • Document aliasing
  • IP Address security
  • Username/password security
  • User and group authentication
  • Remote administration
  • Error customization
  • Common log format logging
  • Configurable MIME types
  • Directory browsing
  • Anonymous FTP
  • Username/password FTP with home directory
  • Configurable thread cache pool

Is this a ground breaking product? Not really. Everything you get with the WebServUSB key, you could download and install yourself on a PC. What this device really provides is a centralized means of running these services – not tied to any specific computer but available to any Windows system it’s connected to.
