I noticed this interesting blog posting over at PVRBlog.com about the equinux MediaCentral app for the Mac OS. It’s basically another media center style interface that’s similar to Apple’s FrontRow except that it appears to deliver even more functionality. I unfortunately do not have a Mac system on hand to try it out with but here are some of the features of MediaCentral from their website:

  • Plays back your favorite DVDs
  • Showcases and delivers all of your videos from a single place
  • Supports a wide variety of formats including AVI, XviD, DivX, MP3, MPEG1/2/4, DV files, and AC3 codec files
  • Displays live video content from eyeTV devices including models 200, 300, 310, 400, and 410
  • Supports online TV streams (weblive TV)
  • Provides direction connection to the latest movie trailers including those in HD formats
  • Connects to iTunes to deliver all your music library selections and your iPod music selections
  • Supports a variety of remote controls although not the latest Apple remote.
