Western Digital has announced that they have begun shipping their 500GB Caviar SATA hard drives. The new drives, called the Western Digital Caviar SE16, will retail for $349.99 on Western Digital’s online store. You can begin preordering the drives now on their site. The new 500GB drives feature a 16MB cache, low operating temperatures, and whisper quiet operations. The drives rotational speeds are at 7200rpm with the average latency at 4.2 ms.  You can check out their product page for additional information on the SE16.
