Verizon expands FiOS TV service
If you happen to live in an area serviced by Verizon’s new FiOS service, you can be sure that I’ll be jealous of you.
What is FiOS you might ask? It’s Verizon’s fiber optic network that they’ve been building out to replace their old copper wire network. By upgrading the copper network to a fiber optic based one, Verizon will be able to offer many more services and thus be able to compete against cable television companies. With FiOS, one could get television, Internet, and phone services all under one connection and of course under one bill. How are the prices thus far? I must say pretty damn good. FiOS TV costs $44.90 a month for a set top box with a basic lineup of 180 channels including at least 20 in high definition. In fact my brother recently signed on to FiOS and is getting 6+ mbps downloads now.
Verizon is clearing expanding its reach with the FiOS service as they will be adding homes in to the service in Massachusetts and New York for the first time. The TV service has been available in 14 towns in Texas, one town in Florida, and one in Virginia thus far.
