DesignTechnica has posted a review of the expensive high end Olive Symphony component here. In case you’ve never heard of the Symphony, it’s a high end digital music player with a built in 80GB HDD and a IBM PowerPC processor powering the innards. You can rip CDs directly onto the drive and then either play them back on your home theater system or create new CDs out of your digital music collection. The Symphony supports MP3, AIFF, PCM, WAV, OGG, FLAC, and AAC file formats and also supports Internet radio. One down side to the product? It’s awfully expensive at $899 so we’re stuck just reading about it through reviews aren’t we? Here’s DesignTechnica’s verdict:

Olive has come up with one of the best devices on the market today. Yes, it’s a bridge between CD component and computer, but it’s well thought out, with enough to please even the most critical mind and ear. Attractive and easy to use, it can appeal not only to those wanting to integrate their digitized music collections with their stereos, but also computer-phobes who want to enter the 21st century.
