Steve’s Digicams has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L1 digital camera here. If you’re not familiar with the L1, it features the following:
- Powered by 2 AA-size batteries
- Supports SD cards
- 6.2-megapixel CCD with 5x optical zoom lens
- 2.5-inch LCD display
- Face Priority Autofocus and In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, plus On-Screen Help menu and D-Lighting
- 15 scene modes; macro setting focuses as close as 1.6 inches from subject
Steve’s verdict:
The Coolpix L1 has a lot of appeal to those wanting ease of use and more powerful than average telephoto magnification. It offers several unique features that distinguish it from the competition, including D-lighting, Red Eye Fix and Best Shot Selector. But it suffers from sluggish shooting performance, a tendency to slightly overexpose outdoor images, and mediocre movie quality. At a street price of around $250, it’s a tempting value if you can live with its limitations.
