I’m always drawn to reviews of small motherboards – case in point – ExtremeTech’s review of the Foxconn 945G7MA-8KS2 Socket 775 MicroATX motherboard (phew that was one long name I tell ya). Why are they so interesting? Well generally speaking, the small mobos are ideal for of course small form factor systems; but they’re also ideal for home theater PC projects where you ideally want a chassis that is not only small but thin in design. Yet you want something that doesn’t necessarily constrain you in performance – that’s where the Foxconn mobo comes into play - this MicroATX board supports socket 775 CPUs which means you get a chance to plug in a dual core Pentium D, Celeron D, or P4’s with HT. Not only does it support some pretty high end processors, the board also comes with integrated 8 channel sound, Gigabit Ethernet and SATA supports. So what does ExtremeTech ultimately think of this board?

This motherboard is a competent choice for building a small form-factor workstation or HTPC on the cheap, especially if you want dual-core performance. For 3D gaming, spring for a decent graphics card
