There have been a couple of postings this weekend comparing the new Treo 700w with older Treo models. First off, I’ll mention the PC World article here. The comparison is done between the Treo 650 and the new 700w which means of course a comparison of Palm OS vs Windows Mobile 5.0 AND a comparison of Cingular vs Verizon Wireless. Probably the most noticeable upside to the 650w is the 360 x 360 display resolution. The 700w only has a 240 x 240 resolution unfortunately. Here’s the verdict from PC World:

Overall, that about sums up my feeling about the Treo 700w. It’s fast; it’s got a few nice phone features; and if I have to use a Windows Mobile hybrid, I’d rather have a Treo than any of the other Windows Mobile smart phones I’ve seen. But do I feel any desire to surrender my Palm OS-based Treo? No. I’ll just upgrade when a faster version comes along. The best things about the Treo 700w have little or nothing to do with Windows Mobile.

I also ran across a comparison of the two Treo’s on MobileWhack.com here. It’s a shorter analysis but here’s the verdict:

If you own a 650 at the moment, you would probably want to wait and see if Treo comes out with an upgrade, unless you want top-notch Internet connectivity and don’t wind re-learning the UI. If you’re looking to buy a new one, then the 700w is the top gun at the moment.
