If you have a PC and a home network but you don’t feel like setting up or purchasing a media center PC, then you might want to check out Hauppauge’s new MediaMVP product. The MediaMVP is a Linux based digital media receiver which connects to your PC via your local area network. You install Hauppauge’s server software on your PC and then let your system serve up media files to the MediaMVP which then connects to your television set for display and listening purposes. You can play back MP3 and WMA music files, view MPEG1/2/DivX video files and also view digital photographs. As you can tell, the entire setup is a client server system and the MediaMVP uses a PowerPC processor to help decode things along (there’s also a hardware based MPEG decoder on the device to speed things along).
