I’ve had a busy day here at work so I haven’t been able to keep up to date with Krunker.com. However elsewhere around the country, this was a particularly busy and fruitful day for hardcore Apple fanatics. It was the keynote address day for the Mac faithful at MacWorld 2006 and Mr. Jobs did not disappoint nor surprise people. The biggest announcements were about two new Mac products using Intel processors. The first one was the Apple MacBook Pro and the second one was a new dual core Intel based iMac.

Let’s talk about the new MacBook Pro. It’s got a slew of features including:

  • 15.4 ich widescreen display capable of 1440 x 900 resolution
  • 1.67 or 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo Processor
  • 667MHz FSB
  • 512MB of DDR2 memory on the 1.67 or 1GB on a 1.83GHz system
  • FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 ports
  • ExpressCard/34 slot
  • Wireless networking
  • Bluetooth 2.0 support
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Stereo speakers
  • ATI Mobility Radeon X1600

This is one screamer of a notebook when compared to the current G4 PowerBook. You not only get a Mac based notebook for the same price – you get dual cores, more power, and less power consumption. The best thing? It’s got OS X.

On the software side, Apple now bundles Front Row with the notebook so you’ll be able to enjoy multimedia content using a simple 10 foot interface. There’s also an integrated iSight digital camera and a new magnetic power adapter. If you happen to trip over the cord – no problems. The cord just comes right off and it won’t bring down your laptop.

Interesting enough, it appears that Apple is using their own wireless chipset instead of the Intel Centrino package. You can get the 1.67GHz processor for $1999 and the 1.83GHz for $2499. Both systems will be available in February.

Now for the second product – it’s the new iMac which also uses the Intel Core Duo processor (not too surprising here either although we were hoping for an Intel based Mac mini). The new iMac comes in either a 17 inch or a 20 inch configuration and comes powered with a 1.83 or 2.0 GHz Duo Core processor. The 2.0 GHz processor comes withthe 20 inch screen while the 1.83GHz processor comes with the 1.83GHz processor. Other specs include SATA Hard Drives, ATI Radeon X1600 graphics, and slot loading DVD burners. Pretty sweet.

There were a couple of other products introduced today including an iPod FM Remote. It’s a remote control for your Apple iPod with a built in FM tuner. The station information is displayed on your iPod when you tune into a station. This addresses the availability of integrated FM tuners in other MP3 players.

Finally, Jobs announced that there will be new content available on iTunes. SNL is coming to iTunes so you can laugh it up while you’re on your way to work. Enjoy!
