ATI OCUR – CableCard capable HDTV tuner for MCE
Anandtech has the inside scoop on the upcoming ATI OCUR HDTV tuner here designed for the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista OS. What’s so special about OCUR? This is the first HDTV tuner designed for the PC which supports the CableCard protocol. ATI demoed both an internal and an external version of the unit both of which connected to the PC via the USB port. Oh yeah, OCUR stands for Open Cable Uni-directional Receiver and the unit is initially designed for hardware OEMs and not for the retail market. Check out the article over at Anandtech – it’s pretty exciting to see CableCard support come to the Windows Media Center application under Windows Vista. With CableCard support in place, Windows Media Center will be able to directly connect to your cable lines for HD support as opposed to having to go through a set top box.
