Elonex is coming out with a new LCD television set with a few tricks up its sleeves. It’s called the Lumina 2 and will be available in two sizes - a 32 inch and 40 inch model. What really stands out with the Lumina 2 is what lies behind the monitor – a full fledged PC! The system includes an Intel Pentium M processor, an NVIDIA 6600 graphics component, 400GB HDD, and 1GB of memory. For video, the set includes a dual layer DVD burner and hybrid TV tuners (one for Freeview digital and one for regular analog). The television set also includes an HDMI socket, two component connectors and an RGB SCART connector. Finally, the television set itself has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 resolutions and will be priced at 2600 Euro for the 32 inch model and 3300 Euro for the 40 inch model.

Am I the only one who found this news tidbit really exciting? ATI Technologies announced that have licensed HDMI technology from Analogix Semiconductor which means you’ll likely find HDMI interface support in ATI video cards in the near future. HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and is a method to pass uncompressed video and audio between consumer electronic devices such as DVD players and television sets. If video cards would start supporting HDMI natively, consumers will likely find it easier to connect a PC to a television screen than ever before. This is great news for HTPC enthusiasts out there.. but alas there’s no time table as to when to expect HDMI enabled products from ATI.

LaptopMag has posted a review of the Panasonic SDR-S100 digital camcorder here on their website. The SDR-S100 was the world’s first 3CCD SD based camcorder with the ability to record MPEG2 video directly onto SD memory cards. Other features include:

  • Leica Dicomar lens
  • 10x optical zoom
  • Optical Image Stabilization
  • 3.1 megapixel still pictures
  • USB 2.0 support
  • Measures 1.96 x 3.8 x 3.17 and weighs 0.52 lbs.

Unfortunately the SDR-S100 is one expensive beast of a camera – with prices at Amazon hovering around 1000 bucks. OUCH! Here’s the verdict:

If Panasonic can drop the SDR-S100’s price by four hundred dollars, the camera could begin to establish a profile as Panasonic’s tapeless leader. Until then, however, this high-end flash cam is merely a showpiece for gadget hounds.

NEC has unveiled a new 20 inch widescreen LCD display called the MultiSync LCD20WGX². The LCD20WGX² features a 16:10 aspect ratio, 6ms response time, a brightness of 470 cd/m2, and a 700:1 contrast ratio.  Viewing angle is fairly impressive coming in at 178 degrees and the monitor provides additional connectivity thanks to the 4 USB 2.0 ports built right in. Finally, the LCD20WGX² has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 (not quite 1080p but close enough) and will be priced at $677. Not too shabby.

I knew it was too good to be true – Verizon Wireless has disabled some of the Bluetooth functionality on the Motorola V3c in the latest firmware upgrade – version 0.3. This news comes to us from PCS Intel (via GearLog) which apparently has found that Verizon has disabled wireless file transfers over Bluetooth. Who knows what else Verizon has chosen to disable in this firmware upgrade – geez… this is an upgrade right?? lame.

Cingular is now offering the Motorola SLVR mobile phone on their website. The SLVR is a candy bar style phone with support for Apple iTunes. Unfortunately the phone has that darn 100 song limit which is utterly ridiculous but you’ve heard that rant from enough of us now. Other features include a cool black body, a VGA camera with 4x zoom, an illuminated etched keypad, video recording, Music tone ringtones, Java support, quad band GSM support, GPRS support, and a talk time of 6 hours. You can get the phone for $199.99 with a two year service agreement.

Modaco.com has posted a review of the Orange SPV C600 Windows Smartphone here in the forums section. The C600 features a 2.2 QVGA color screen and a 1.3 megapixel digital camera but no WiFi support which may or may not matter to you. More importantly, it doesn’t have the bar up on top of the phone which is an annoyance to some of you out there. To me, the most important element of the C600 phone is the use of Windows Mobile 5 instead of 2003 SE. The changes are enough to make me just smile. :) Here’s the verdict:

In conclusion, I heartily recommend this phone, and am excited to call it the first, truly MoDaCo Approved! device

Feeling adventurous? Go to Microsoft’s IE website and download beta 2 of IE 7. The new version has many features that we typically take for granted on alternative browsers such as Firefox and Opera. These features include tabbed browsing, toolbar integrated searching, and RSS feeds support.
