Lenovo’s CEO, Stephen Ward has stepped down and will be replaced by one of Dell’s senior executives for Asia, William Amelio. Many expected Ward to step down at some point but not this early. Could this signal some sort of trouble over the Lenovo/IBM PC business merger? The merger was announced last December and was completed in May. Both companies said that the first phase of the transition to a common brand would last approximately 18 months. Lenovo execs now claim that the integration has gone faster than expected and Wards’ departure comes at an appropriate time.
