Yeah it’s been a bit slow in the news recently – maybe that explains why SmartphoneThoughts is talking about caller ID pictures on Windows Mobile phones. What am I talking about exactly? Well most mobile phone caller ID systems will try and display the relevant contact of the number dialing you – that is, if it can find one. However, name aside, many phones don’t provide the capability of attaching a picture to the contact – but Microsoft does with Windows Mobile. In fact, it’s been a capability of Windows Mobile for some time – you could always do so on an Audiovox SMT 5600 running Windows Mobile 2003 SE. In any event, Smartphone Thoughts applauds MSFT for the ability to attach a picture but then decides to rail on them for making the pictures so small. Apparently MSFT left it up to the manufacturer to customize this feature. Anyhow, it’s not really a news piece to comment on but I thought you guys might be interested in reading it anyhow – especially those of you with Windows Smartphone devices. So what do you think? Does it really matter? I don’t think so as long as the OS can provide me the name of the caller. That’s all I care.
