There’s an interesting article over at Tapei Times which forecasts Apple’s growth in the notebook market. It’s titled “Apple will rule notebook roost: study” and it states that researchers claim that Apple is set to take control of the thin and light notebook market. Now if you read the article carefully, researchers expect to see Apple’s market share of notebooks to grow from 3.9 percent this year to 4.7 percent next year. Now that might be a good pace for an individual company but if you think about it – this is hardly ruling any market. The fact remains that Apple notebook sales pail in comparison to Windows based notebooks. When compared on a manufacturer to manufacturer basis – Apple will perform admirably. When compared to platform to platform, Apple has a long ways to go.

Don’t get me wrong – I love Apple and what they’re doing with OS X as well as with upcoming Intel based models. However, I do not believe that surging iPod sales will necessarily translate to surging notebook sales – why? As long as Apple makes iTunes for PCs – people will continue to want to use the platform they already have which unfortunately is Windows.

Ok.. enough with that analysis (and I’m sure I’ll get flamed for saying those comments) – other interesting tidbits from the article include the notion that Apple plans on attracting more female buyers with lighter notebooks next year. Upcoming notebooks will include a 1.5kg 12 inch notebook and a sub 2kg 14 inch notebook.
