Anandtech has written up an article previewing the upcoming Bensley platform which is the code name for Intel’s latest XEON platform. Bensley uses a new chipset called the Blackford chipset which now supports a dual independent bus architecture up to 1066MHz. There’s also a new dual core XEON processor coming out called Dempsey which runs on the Bensley platform. It’s manufactured on a 65nm process and will come in three variations. The article takes a look at the performance of these new dual core processors as compared against the Opteron processor. Comparisons are made at the performance level but also at the power consumption level. The verdict?

So, you’ve read through the article and are waiting for us to tell you what platform is better. That entirely depends on what matters to you: performance, power, or both. If all you care about is performance, then Bensley is that platform. If you care about how much power you consume, then Opteron is that platform. Now, if you want the best performance per Watt, then Opteron is that platform
