Realm Systems BlackDog Portable Linux Server Review
Can you believe that this odd looking small device is actually a full fledged Linux server? That’s right folks – this 1.6 ounce device is called the Realm Systems BlackDog Portable Linux Server and the folks from XYZComputing take a look at it here. So what’s in this system? Well you’ve got a 400 MHz Power PC processor with 64 MB of RAM which plugs right into your computer’s USB port. Once connected, the unit treats your existing PC as a DHCP server and gets an IP address from the PC. Then, the Linux server uses the assigned IP address and you can browse to the server via the web browser on your PC – even though the system is actually connected to your PC via USB. So what’s the point? Well you can bring this box wherever you go and you’ll be able to run Linux apps side by side with your Windows desktop. You can also use it to browse the web safely from whatever system you’re at. It’s an interesting device by far.

Honestly, I love the look of the package especially with the dog collar design around it- it’s definitely screaming BlackDog all over. Heck even the packaging is cool! The verdict?
All I can really tell you is that the BlackDog is something that every geek and every company could use. The uses for this device are unimaginable, and the features are more than amazing: plug and play power, network access, leaves no trace of your application or data on the host computer, fast boot time of 2 seconds, and it goes on from there.
