Neuros Audio 442 Digital Media Player / Recorder Review
Looking for recording capabilites in portable media players? Up until recently, Archos was your best bet but now Neuros has their Neuros Audio 442 Digital Media Player / Recorder device – their first PMP device. The folks over at the Gadgeteer review the 442 here. The 442 measures 5.25″ x 3″ x 1″ and weighs 12.1 ounces. Technically, the device has a 3.6″ color screen and comes with a 40GB HDD. For video playback, the 442 plays back MPEG4, DivX, and WMV file formats. Now the good part of the Neuros devices is the ability to record any video source MPEG SP with G.726 audio format. You’ll be able to record at 704 x 240 resolution at 30fps. So the verdict?
The Neuros is extremely easy to hook to an analog audio / video source, and recording directly to the device is a breeze. Playback looks and sounds great on this solidly built device, and once the user learns the rhythm of hitting the various button combinations to get where they want to be, it is not so hard to navigate. But perhaps the best feature of the Neuros is the community of people, developers and consumers alike, which are working together to create an ever improving product.
