Intel announced yesterday that their next generation platform for mobile computing – code named “Napa” will use 25 percent less power than in previous systems while performing upwards to 68 percent better at times. Napa is an overhaul of the Intel Centrino platform and will feature a new processor in the form of the code name Yonah processor, a new motherboard chipset, and a new wireless chip. What’s particularly cool about Yonah are two things – dual core support and a new manufacturing process. Making the CPU smaller will reduce the amount of heat generated which translates to less fan usage and power consumption. Yonah’s dual cores will provide a boost in performance as users will be available to perform simulatenously tasks much more smoothly.
