There sure has been plenty of Xbox 360 news recently from all sorts of fronts. Instead of writing about them in separate postings, I thought I’d combine them all into one so let’s dig in shall we?

First off, Hexus.net writes about privacy concerns regarding Xbox Live. This isn’t news to me since I attended the Microsoft Zero Hour launch party where Microsoft publicly talked about how you can see what your friends are doing while they’re online. BUT in case you didn’t realize it, your Xbox 360 will log onto the Xbox Live network whenever you turn on your 360. Thus no matter what it is that you’re doing – watching TV via the Media Center Extender, downloading content, or playing games, people will know what you’re doing – sorta. You can read more about it here. I don’t find it a big deal because they’re not revealing information that is harmful to me but I do agree that you should be opted out of this first. I’m sure if people complain about it enough, Microsoft will change the default. Honestly, it’s no big deal. I don’t care if my friends know I am using my Media Center or I’m downloading content. Now if it was sharing personal identifiable information – that’s a different story.

So let’s see what else is there. Ah yes, have you ever checked out the drive capacity of the hard drive that comes with your Xbox 360? You’ll notice that you actually only have 13 GB of space. Why is that? Well there’s plenty of content that Microsoft preloads onto the hard drive such as trailers and demos but that can’t really account for the missing 7 GB can it? There are theories that Microsoft had to load emulation software in there to emulate the NVIDIA GPU from the original Xbox. In any case, it’s important for you to know that you really don’t have 20GB of free space but rather 13GB to start out with. I hear modders calling… Check it out here.

Finally, it appears that Best Buy is indeed getting shipments of Xbox 360 game consoles – except that its telling its stores to hold them until Dec. 18th. Some people find this evil but it’s actually pretty smart of Best Buy – this allows them to have a controlled marketing campaign guaranting them the ability to deliver a certain number of Xbox consoles on the 18th. Does this mean you’ll get one on that day? Probably not since I’m sure there will be a mass line of people again but who knows? Check it out here.
