If you’ve been thinking about adding a TV Tuner to your PC – whether it’s a regular system or a Windows Media Center PC, you should check out Anandtech’s roundup of three TV tuners here. These include two HDTV tuners – the MyHD MDP-130 and the DVICO Fusion5 Gold, and an analog TV Tuner – the PowerColor Theater 550 PCIe. I’ve played with the DVICO Fusion5 and it’s a great card when it comes to HDTV reception but it can be a total nightmare when it comes to setting up on a system. In any case, here are Anandtech’s findings:
With all that said, if I had to go out and buy a TV tuner card right now, the MyHD MDP-130 would be my choice. It’s expensive and the analog has steep hardware demands, but I can handle both of those requirements. I can even deal with the less-than-perfect user interface – if you’ve ever installed Linux and managed to get it hooked up to the Internet and playing video, you can certainly handle the MyHD software.
