Here’s an interesting application from Microsoft Research. It’s called SNARF which stands for the “Social Network and Relationship Finder” and it’s built around the analyzing the email that you get from people and the type of relationships you build with these people. The more you correspond with someone, the more important the email message is to you. The tool simply counts email messages, sorts them by sender, and then draws conclusions about their relative importance to the user based on the intensity of the relationships. If you want to try it out, you’ll need Outlook 2003 or 2002.
