Palm Treo 700w appears on the FCC
Ah the good ol FCC database is back at it again – revealing secrets about upcoming mobile phone products. This time it’s the upcoming Palm Trep 700w and it looks like the device is definitely slated for an early 2006 upveiling on Verizon Wireless. There’s a lot of information up on the FCC filing including a whole user’s manual. What this means is, we can finally take a look at what the 700w is going to provide.

Physically speaking, the 700w looks similar to the previous Treo models. There’s a couple of changes to the front facing of the phone. You now have a “Start” button on the left hand side of the phone and there’s also an “OK” button on the right. There’s a keyboard backlight which turns on what the phone comes on. The backlight turns off once the phone either shuts off or if you are listening to music or on a call.
Software wise – there’s a shot of the new “Today Screen” that Palm employs for the 700w. You can program speed dial numbers for the phone and attach pictures of the people directly to the phone numbers which can then be displayed in a row on the Today screen.

Contact synching is of course done via ActiveSync – what else would it be? It’s a Windows device!
There’s built in EVDO support so you’ll be able to surf at broadband speeds. It doesn’t look like the 700w will support WiFi networking which is a shame since you won’t be able to switch to hotspots if you can’t reach your EVDO service.
The 700w does support Bluetooth (up to version 1.2) so you can sync and pair with Bluetooth devices such as headsets.
Other tidbits – the phone can be programmed to work with a Microsoft Exchange server. It comes with the Office Mobile applications and has of course Windows Media Player built right in.
Lots of good stuff.
