AOpen Mini PC finally released
AOpen has finally released the Mini PC barebones unit to the Japanese market. You can find the press release to the mini PC here. The system certainly does bare a striking resemblance to the Mac mini however the pricing model is a bit different. This is a barebones system so you’ll need to add a processor, memory, hard drive, and an OS to the system which will signficantly raise the overall price. Oh well - you can’t have it all huh? But then again - you can nearly have it all with a Mac mini. Hmm…

No new N-Gage devices anytime soon
Nokia has announced that it will be shifting it’s focus away from mobile gaming to mobile music and television content. As a result, the Nokia N-Gage will probably not see an update until 2007 - that’s when mobile gaming technology is expected to improve enough for Nokia to warrant an updated device. The gaming software behind the N-Gage will be integrated into the Series 60 phones so not everything will end with the demise of the N-Gage.

Xbox 360 reviewed
I’ve finally gotten around to writing up our own review of the Xbox 360 game console. You can find the review here. I hope you enjoy the writeup - it’s not particularly long but hopefully it’ll give you an idea of what the system is capable of doing. Stay tuned for a look into the Media Center Extender portion of the Xbox 360. I know - I seem a bit obsessed with MCE - I can’t help it. It’s actually a useful product from Microsoft!

Sony NW-A1000 reviewed
AV Watch reviews the Sony NW-A1000 Network Walkman here. The review is in Japanese but there are plenty of pictures to look at also if you’re curious to get a close up glimpse on the NW-A1000. The A1000 is a 6GB HDD based music player supporting MP3 and ATRAC file formats. The best thing about the A1000 is the oversized OLED display but otherwise there’s not much else to this player.

Xbox 360 crash reports
Yeah this is somewhat old news but I wanted to post it up anyhow. It turns out that there are some folks out there who have reported crashes on their Xbox 360 console. Am I surprised? Not at all - this isn’t uncommon. With millions of these consoles manufactured and considering the complexity of the new system, it’s no surprise that you’re going to get a bad system here and there. So far my system has been running just fine although I’ve just been running PGR3 and using the console as a Windows Media Center Extender.

No surprise here - Microsoft loses money on every Xbox 360
This certainly shouldn’t be a surprise to you - It’s believed that Microsoft loses money on every Xbox 360 sold. A technology and microchip research firm called iSuppli believes that it costs Microsoft $552.27 dollars to build and test every Xbox 360 system. Compare that to the retail price of $399 for the Xbox 360 system and you’ll see that Microsoft easily loses 40 percent on every box. This isn’t abnormal of course - many game consoles are usually sold for a loss in the beginning as the console manufacturers try and make back the money via game sales and game license sales. Over time, the average cost per console should also drop as the manufacturing process improves.
