Nikao Dragonfire Case reviewed
Hi-TechReviews.com reviews this funky looking computer case called the Nikao Dragonfire Case . For those of you into building computer systems, this is an ATX case made out of steel with capacities for up to 4 - 5.25 inch drives, and 7 - 3.5″ drives. You can find the review here. The verdict on it?
The Nikao Dragonfire Case is one of those case that you will either love or dislike from the minute you see it. We loved the chrome accent pieces representing dragons and swords and though it brought a nice touch to a case that would be perfectly at home as someone’s gaming case.

Building a Dual Core Media Center PC
Ever since dual core processors came out, I’ve been thinking about swapping out my Pentium M MCE system in favor of a dual core processor based MCE box. However, I really liked the notion of having a cool running system thanks in large part to the Pentium M processor. However, the folks over at ExtremeTech have come up with an article on building an Athlon 64 X2 based system that seems to be both powerful and cool running. Now that’s pretty sweet. I’m going to have to reconsider building a dual core system one of these days - then again with the advent of the Xbox 360, I might just move my MCE system out of the living room altogether!

Could a Mac mini be heading for your living room?
Could a Mac mini be heading for your living room next year? The folks over at Think Secret seem to think so as they’ve been receiving rumors that Apple will relaunch the Mac mini at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco as a digital media hub. The new Mac mini project (code named Kaleidoscope) will feature an Intel processor and include Front Row 2.0 and DVR capabilities akin to TiVo. Other rumored features include an integrated iPod dock and perhaps video recording out of the box. Everyone has been wondering when Apple would enter this space and with the recent announcements of the new Apple iPod and the Front Row 10 foot user interface, it seems highly likely that Apple will indeed enter this space.
Of course, Apple will have plenty of competition here - ranging from TiVo to Microsoft to Cable and Satellite companies that have their own offerings. The key pillars will be price and usability. If one can record television shows easily; watch older shows on their television screens, listen to music or watch videos in an instant, and have all this made portable on their iPod, then this could very well work out for Apple.

Adaptec Dual TV Tuner for Windows XP MCE 2005
It looks like Adaptec is spreading it’s hardware portfolio with the introduction of the Dual TV Tuner for Windows XP MCE 2005 device. This external USB 2.0 device features the ability to record two different shows at the same time and offering full compatibility with Microsoft Windows Media Center 2005. The hardware includes dual TV tuners and dual hardware based MPEG-2 encoders for each stream. There are also dual S-Video/Composite and RCA stereo audio inputs and an integrated FM Radio Receiver. This unit is ideal for people who have systems that are just plain out of PCI slots or for systems that didn’t have enough slots to begin with. The product isn’t cheap by any means - coming in at $229.00 but it just might be the ideal solution for people looking to do more with their MCE system.

TiVo Beta Pics
ZatsNotFunny has some pictures of a beta version of an upcoming TiVo update which includes content and services resulting from agreements that TiVo has made with various partners recently including Yahoo, Live365, and Fandango. It looks like TiVo is finally taking full advantage of its reach into the consumer home by offering users the ability to access content typically available on the Internet on their DVR. Example - you can access your Yahoo account from your TiVo Series 2 box on your television set. It’s about time TiVo. The real question remains to be answered - is this too little too late?
