Could a Mac mini be heading for your living room next year? The folks over at Think Secret seem to think so as they’ve been receiving rumors that Apple will relaunch the Mac mini at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco as a digital media hub. The new Mac mini project (code named Kaleidoscope) will feature an Intel processor and include Front Row 2.0 and DVR capabilities akin to TiVo. Other rumored features include an integrated iPod dock and perhaps video recording out of the box. Everyone has been wondering when Apple would enter this space and with the recent announcements of the new Apple iPod and the Front Row 10 foot user interface, it seems highly likely that Apple will indeed enter this space.

Of course, Apple will have plenty of competition here - ranging from TiVo to Microsoft to Cable and Satellite companies that have their own offerings. The key pillars will be price and usability. If one can record television shows easily; watch older shows on their television screens, listen to music or watch videos in an instant, and have all this made portable on their iPod, then this could very well work out for Apple.
