It’s near the end of day one of the Xbox 360 era and I thought I’d try and find some of the reviews that have circulated the net on the 360. Here’s a sampling:
From PC Magazine:
Xbox 360 sets a new standard in console gaming with high-definition video and surround-sound audio. The Design of the main console is impressive, and setup is effortless, although poorly documented. The Xbox 360 is truly cutting-edge technology on the vanguard of next-generation console gaming.
From PC World:
So the $300 version is underwhelming–but how’s the premium pack? Having been spoiled by the standard hard drive on the Xbox, we’re hardly blown away by the $400 version. The Xbox 360 is undoubtedly cutting-edge, but it doesn’t feel too far ahead of the curve compared to the lush HDR visuals in PC gaming.
From The Register:
Microsoft is missing that “must have”, like Halo was on the Xbox, for instance. The launch line-up is mainly shooters and racers, which won’t go down brilliantly in Japan either. And none of the games do anything except tune graphics up to the level of the average current PC game. But as Morris says it’s “worth waiting a bit”, because games will be along in 2006 that actually use the power of this new machine
From Chicago Tribune:
Our picks for games to get? “Condemned: Criminal Origin” (a spine-tingling horror game meant to be played with the lights out), “Kameo: Elements of Power” (a great adventure game that doubles as one of the few family-friendly titles for the system) and “Project Gotham Racing 3″ (a richly detailed beauty of a racing game).
From BBC:
Graphically, it is a leap forward as the Xbox 360 can draw up to 500 million polygons per second to depict game scenes. By contrast the original Xbox’s upper limit was 125 million.
