Catching up on some old news here. TiVo announced on Monday that it will begin to test a service that allows users of TiVo DVRS to download video content straight to Apple iPods and Sony PSPs. The news of this sent TiVo shares up by 4 percent on Monday. Of course this venture is not without its own peril as NBC Universal has started grumbling about possible copyright issues in distributing content onto portable devices. The new version of TiVoToGo won’t start until early 2006 but this is certainly just the beginning of it all. I’ve been meaning to test alternatives on the MCE side of things – to see how easy it will be to transfer recorded TV from an MCE box to an iPod video.
