It looks like my original information on the i830 might have been wrong. The phone adds support for GSM while keeping the existing CDMA support. This basically means the i830 is a world phone capable of communicating nearly everywhere you are at. One unusual ommission is WiFi. The i830 apparently removes WiFi from the smartphone. Why ???????
