For those of you curious about the new Away Mode feature found in the Update Rollup 2 package for Windows Media Center 2005, check out this discussion over at the Green Button. Microsoft has stated that Away Mode will only work with new PC’s but some people have wondered whether they can get it to work on older systems with MCE 2005. What exactly is Away Mode? Basically the system runs in a lower power mode whereby the PC is still recording video but the display is turned off and the audio is muted.

It seems that Away Mode may end up needing a new BIOS firmware upgrade and also a new component which would need to be installed (and not found on UR2). It’s still not quite clear if that’s all that is needed but check out the forum for more details.
