Microsoft and Yahoo have finally come to terms (sorta) when it comes to IM interoperability. They will make their two networks partly interoperable within the second quarter of next year. What does this mean for the Yahoo/MSN user? You will be able to text chat with one another, PC to PC voice chat with one another, share some emoticons with one another, and add contacts from one another. Full interoperability is still far off but this is a clear sign that the once separate groups have a desire to make peace especially in the light of a major competitor in the form of Google. AOL is still the largest IM network out there although MSN and Yahoo combined would account for 275 million users (many of which overlap between the two services).
